Curriculum and Goals
The Oak Grove Preschool uses a theme based approach to learning guided by the weekly reader program. We make sure to incorporate the Ohio Department of Education’s Early Learning Content Standards into our lesson plans. We have goals for the day, week and month. Our themes are both fun and educational. Throughout the week, we are sure to include music, dramatic play, gross motor activities, readiness skills, reading and sensory experiences. We strive to provide enough different experiences to meet the needs of each individual learning style. We recognize that not all children learn the same way or at the same speed. Patience is practiced daily!
The children at Oak Grove have many experiences in which to learn and grow. Along with our theme based curriculum, the children in our three-day class participate in 5 to 6 field trips. The students in the two-day program venture out 3 or 4 times. Being able to make our themes real to them is so important! We welcome visitors who have talents or trades to share. The Canine Therapy Group visits each year to teach bite prevention. The local fire department visits as well. Each month our room changes to represent our themes for the coming weeks. It is very important to switch the centers and provide new experiences for the kids.
Each year the children participate in a mission project that involves bringing in toys for less fortunate children for People to People Ministries. We have partnered with MCC for service projects as well. Every other year the center will participate in a St. Jude Trik-a-thon to raise money for their hospital. Giving back is a very important life lesson.
Communication is very essential with the home- school relationship. There is a weekly newsletter that goes home to keep parents informed of what their child is doing and what is coming up. A monthly calendar is sent out to make sure parents know what is ahead. We encourage open communication to ensure a quality school experience.
