Doug Zehr, Pastor

Doug grew up in Ontario, Canada, and Miriam in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. In the late 70’s they met as seniors at Eastern Mennonite University. After graduation from college, Doug went on to study at Eastern Mennonite Seminary and completed his Masters of Theological Studies at Conrad Grebel College in 1994. He received his Doctor of Ministry from Ashland Theological Seminary. Miriam received her Home Economics degree from EMU and taught in Oregon and Ontario.

Doug and Miriam were married in 1982 and are the parents of three daughters. Sherah-Leigh is living in Apple Creek with her husband B.J. Gerber. Charissa is on an MCC assignment in Honduras and Maria is a student at EMU.

Doug served three congregations before pastoring the North Leo Mennonite Church for fourteen years. During this time he provided stability, leadership and vision.

Doug has served the larger church by working with the Indiana-Michigan Conference and community organizations. He has also been featured on several “Ask the pastor” tv spots.

For the past eight years, Doug has been making annual trips to Kenya to teach local pastors. These trips (2-4 weeks) have greatly enriched Doug’s understanding of the larger church and have enriched the North Leo Church as well.

Miriam has gifts in education, visitation and family life. She and Doug have worked as a team at North Leo. Together Miriam and Doug have an absolute love for the church and both feel the call to ministry.
